Picking which BMW X3 Android screen to actually buy, though, took me far longer than the install did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I covered what these Android screens are and why I Android&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Slim_Pickings_on_Japanese_Sites\"><\/span>Slim Pickings on Japanese Sites<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rakuten, Amazon Japan, Yahoo! Shopping \u2014 the big Japanese e-commerce sites barely had any listings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The few that showed up had no reviews and looked like resellers just flipping items from overseas marketplaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same story on Yahoo! Auctions: a handful of hits, but clearly the same reseller listing units in bulk, with no warranty to speak of. If that&#8217;s the game, I might as well buy directly from the source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Checking_Overseas_Sites\"><\/span>Checking Overseas Sites<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I looked at eBay and Amazon.com, which I&#8217;d used before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They had some listings, but the selection was thin and prices were high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AliExpress_Had_the_Best_Selection\"><\/span>AliExpress Had the Best Selection<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then a Google search led me to AliExpress, which had by far the widest variety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Chinese marketplace gave me pause at first, I&#8217;ll admit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it&#8217;s owned by Alibaba and I&#8217;d heard of it in the news \u2014 and good products are good products, regardless of where they ship from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;d previously bought a repair part for the sticky driver&#8217;s door pull pocket from a seller in Wuhan, China (via eBay), and it was cheap and excellent. I still touch that part every day and it&#8217;s holding up perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So AliExpress it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Actually_Matters_in_a_BMW_X3_Android_Screen\"><\/span>What Actually Matters in a BMW X3 Android Screen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Searching &#8220;F25 X3 android&#8221; on AliExpress returns a dizzying number of listings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even a single seller offers tons of spec variations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I couldn&#8217;t decide right away, so I narrowed things down by the specs that actually matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Display_Size\"><\/span>Display Size<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most important factor. These units are mainly sold in 10.25-inch and 12.3-inch versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Watch_Out_Some_Are_for_Left-Hand_Drive\"><\/span>Watch Out: Some Are for Left-Hand Drive<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing worried me: China and most other markets drive on the right with left-hand-drive cars, so are these panels shaped for LHD dashboards?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking closely at product photos, some 10.25-inch units clearly had a bezel cutout positioned for left-hand-drive dashboards \u2014 some even said &#8220;for LHD&#8221; in the listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can see the current 10.25-inch offerings here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/w\/wholesale-BMW-F25-F26-10.25-inch-Android-screen.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">10.25&#8243; Android screens for BMW F25\/F26 on AliExpress<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 12.3-inch version, on the other hand, spans nearly the full width of the center dash, so there&#8217;s no left\/right distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a right-hand-drive car (like mine here in Japan, or in the UK and Australia), the 12.3-inch should be the safe choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had no hard confirmation when ordering \u2014 I judged from the photos. (Having since bought and installed one: yes, the 12.3-inch was the right call.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"OS_Version\"><\/span>OS Version<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Units came with Android 10 or Android 11, with 11 costing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I couldn&#8217;t find any meaningful functional difference, so I let price decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RAM_and_CPU\"><\/span>RAM and CPU<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m not gaming on my car&#8217;s dashboard, so 4 GB of RAM is plenty. I made 4 GB or more my baseline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CPU specs (Snapdragon etc.) were listed inconsistently. As long as it runs smoothly, I don&#8217;t mind \u2014 so I didn&#8217;t weigh it heavily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Storage_ROM\"><\/span>Storage (ROM)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sellers offer 32\/64\/128\/256 GB options, with bigger costing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By smartphone standards 32 GB is workable, but 64 GB gives comfortable room for apps and video files. USB drives and SD cards work too, so huge internal storage isn&#8217;t really necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bluetooth\"><\/span>Bluetooth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last comparable spec: Bluetooth version. I saw 4.0 and 5.0 versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice you&#8217;ll usually pair your phone to the factory head unit anyway, so it may not matter much \u2014 but it nagged at me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Comparison_Table_as_of_December_2021\"><\/span>Comparison Table (as of December 2021)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s the list I compiled, sorted by total price.
