Here&#8217;s what I used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trim_Removal_Tools\"><\/span>Trim Removal Tools<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Android screen came with a free plastic pry tool, but it was so flimsy and poorly molded that I used my own instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A proper set of trim removal tools is endlessly useful \u2014 door panels, wiring jobs, you name it. US$400 at the time) including shipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were so many options that I honestly couldn&#8217;t tell which was &#8220;best&#8221;, so I went cheap enough that a failure wouldn&#8217;t hurt too much. Buying from overseas, I&#8217;d braced myself for a defective unit, so no visible damage was a relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Removing_the_Factory_Head_Unit\"><\/span>Removing the Factory Head Unit<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Time to tear into the F25&#8217;s audio section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the disassembly and installation procedure, I found overseas YouTube videos showing this exact job, and watched them several times beforehand. Think about where to apply force before pulling, or you&#8217;ll break something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, remove the upper trim panel. Once you&#8217;ve done it you&#8217;ll know the trick \u2014 and promptly forget it by next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Removing_the_Climate_Control_Panel\"><\/span>Removing the Climate Control Panel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next comes the climate\/audio control panel. The photo shows it unlocked: flip the gray lock lever (yellow circle) toward you and the connector slides right out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clever design, actually. No cutting or crimping needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since it&#8217;s coupler-on, you could return the car to bone stock without a trace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, remove the factory connector from the back of the head unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" back of the head unit, and everything goes back where it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a thick bundle with bulky couplers, and I was worried it wouldn&#8217;t fit behind the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"396\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mostly plug-and-play \u2014 but the two leads in the green circles must be moved over individually<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those two are fiber-optic lines, which can&#8217;t be split \u2014 that&#8217;s why they get repinned instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pull the factory connector off the head unit, extract those two fiber leads from it, insert them into the splice harness&#8217;s connector, and plug everything back into the head unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is hard to describe in words \u2014 a YouTube video of an X3 Android screen install will make it click instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the splice harness in place, route the cables up to the monitor position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"612\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this photo the head unit is already back in \u2014 and getting it back in with the extra harness behind it was a struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stuffed the spliced couplers and cables as far into the lower-right recess as they&#8217;d go, and it finally seated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve installed stereos in cars with far less space to work with, so the F25 is comparatively forgiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fitting_the_GPS_Antenna\"><\/span>Fitting the GPS Antenna<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Android screen can run map apps and work as a standalone navigation unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A GPS antenna was included, so I stuck it in an empty spot deep inside the dash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"211\" src=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f25-androidmonitor-retrofit-gps.jpg\" alt=\"GPS antenna placement inside the class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Routing it all the way onto the dashboard felt like a hassle, so I hoped this hidden spot (red circle) would get adequate reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well&#8230; after some real-world use, reception there wasn&#8217;t good enough \u2014 the position fix drifts now and then. I&#8217;ll need to relocate the antenna at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mounting_the_Screen\"><\/span>Mounting the Screen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the main event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, fit the included mounting base into the space where the factory monitor was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" src=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f25-androidmonitor-retrofit14.jpg\" alt=\"Mounting base fitted into the factory monitor opening\" class=\"wp-image-8720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f25-androidmonitor-retrofit14.jpg 400w, https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f25-androidmonitor-retrofit14-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It went in eventually \u2014 but it fought like a puzzle box and took a while<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The base has a cable hole in the center, so you can still adjust cable routing after it&#8217;s mounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Screw the base down at the lower left and right, then mount the 12.3-inch screen itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only cables I connected to the screen were the GPS antenna and the splice harness from the head unit. You can just spot the USB lead peeking out behind the screen<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wrapping_Up_the_F25_Android_Screen_Installation\"><\/span>Wrapping Up the F25 Android Screen Installation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And with that, the Android screen was up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Total working time: about 3 hours. With experience, I&#8217;d say 2 hours is realistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was almost no information about this swap in Japanese, so I pieced the job together from overseas sites and videos \u2014 and it worked out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result: a massively bigger screen, and I couldn&#8217;t be happier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At roughly \u00a545,000 (approx. US$400 at the time) for a big screen <em>plus<\/em> full Android app support, the cost-performance is absurd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For F-series and E-series BMWs \u2014 where the factory navigation is clunky and the maps are ancient \u2014 I think this is one of the best-value upgrades you can make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My F25 X3 was closing in on 320,000 km at the time, but with the navigation modernized, it felt ready for plenty more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you attempt this installation based on this article,
