Speed, battery level, all of it lives on the centre screen.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back in August I placed a bundle of AliExpress orders, and one of them was a 10.88-inch Model YL dashboard display that sits behind the wheel. So I finally fitted it, and this post covers the install.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Halfway through, the car threw a wall of ABS warnings and I genuinely panicked, so that part is in It is a 10.88-inch unit from CARBAR Autoparts Store. noreferrer\">centre console table<\/a> on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_I_installed_the_dashboard_display\"><\/span>How I installed the tool was a set of trim removers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The box came with a single installation sheet in English, written for the Model 3 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The manual has you remove the passenger-side trim, then draw power from the A-pillar.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is also a cable in the passenger footwell you could tap into.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, though, I didn&#8217;t splice into that one.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I opened things up until I could see inside the dash, and following the manual I even unplugged the footwell light wiring. In the end, nothing on that side needed opening.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a Japanese right-hand-drive car, you only need to take apart the driver&#8217;s side. The yellow wire is for a front camera. The parts list in the manual marks the camera as optional. The photo is blurry because I snapped it in a hurry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had powered the car off from the screen, but I don&#8217;t think it had fully shut down. Pulling the connector while it was still awake probably left the brake system sensors without a signal.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_warnings_cleared_once_the_car_went_to_sleep\"><\/span>The warnings cleared once the car went to sleep<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I decided to calm down first, so I went and had a bath.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The car seems to have gone to sleep while I was away. When I came back and woke it up, every warning was gone. What a relief&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_display_ran_a_system_update_after_start-up\"><\/span>The display ran a system update after start-up<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pulling myself together, I powered it up and connected it to Wi-Fi, and a system update started.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/modelyl-meter-display-18-update.jpg\" alt=\"System update screen on the dashboard display\" class=\"wp-image-9596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/modelyl-meter-display-18-update.jpg 450w, https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/modelyl-meter-display-18-update-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the update finished, it showed speed, battery level, range, door status and more.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is as far as the install goes. If I find anything worth sharing after living with it for a while, I&#8217;ll write about what it&#8217;s like to use.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summary\"><\/span>Summary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I fitted a 10.88-inch Model YL dashboard display from AliExpress.<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On a right-hand-drive car, only the driver&#8217;s side needs to come apart (the passenger side didn&#8217;t need opening)<\/li>\n<li>The top dash cover is very stiff (wedge a flat trim tool in, then pull it open by hand)<\/li>\n<li>Power came from the spare connector on the right side of the driver&#8217;s footwell<\/li>\n<li>Only unplug connectors once the car is fully asleep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The job took about three hours with a meal break. If you only do what is needed, I think it would take an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next time I touch that connector, I&#8217;ll power off from the screen, then wait until the car has fully shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to double-check the Power Off step first, Tesla&#8217;s online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/ownersmanual\/modely\/en_us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">owner&#8217;s manual<\/a> is the place to look.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve fitted a few other AliExpress interior parts before, like this <a href=\"https:\/\/everinterest.net\/en\/tesla-modelyl-glovebox-usb-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\"
